final days of flannel
Monday, April 12, 2010 at 7:06AM As the weather warms up the days are numbered for these little flannel pajamas.
I made them as a Christmas present for Alice. It's a tradition in my family to give pajamas on Christmas Eve so we have new pj's to lounge around in the next day. Of course I didn't actually finish these on time to gift them on Christmas Eve but that was my intention. Next year I'll start a wee bit earlier (like before the 22nd of December).

They are made from a lovely cotton flannel that unfortunately I didn't buy enough of. Luckily I was only a little short and so I used some scraps of polka dot flannel around the neck, on the cuffs and for the waist band. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I used the same Oliver + S pattern I used before. It being my third time using this pattern I found it very quick and easy but still had the same issues I did the first time around. I had trouble attaching the ties to the outside kimono flaps without them looking messy and I can't make the neckband attach smoothly. However, neither of these problems will stop me from being happy with the results or using the pattern again.
I'm actually amazed I got any clear photos of these pajamas since most of them turned out like this one. She's definitely a girl on the go these days.

how darling! i've only made the pants from that pattern because the neck intimidated me too much. i love the polka dot contrast! hmmm. maybe i ought to add winter pjs to my summer sewing!
adorable! it's a shame to put them away, but hooray for spring! :)
Gorgeous pattern and gorgeous flannel. I wish I had a pair of cosy pjs like that! And I love your tradition of giving pyjamas on Christmas eve (or shortly thereafter!). I might have to institute something similar. Although they would need to be summer shorties for Christmas in Australia. Have you made any summer versions?
Kendra - yes, add winter pj's to your summer sewing list! And yes the neckband is finicky but I have absolute faith that you can do it.
Jen - I know, I'll take some spring sunshine instead of flannel any day Good by flannel, hello tulips;)
Twirling Betty - I love the idea of making a summer version with shorts and short sleeves. Thanks for suggesting it! When I was little and I learned that Christmas happened in the summer in Australia I thought it meant that Christmas Day was on July 25th down under. Yep, a little embarrassing to admit but true.
